New to Bittorrent?
-
If you are new to
Bittorrent
you need to
install a 'Bittorrent Download Client'
of which there are many to chose from. Here is one
I recommend,
BitTornado,
click
HERE
to download it. It's simple to use and allows you to optimise your
downloads easily.
-
OK, so now you have installed
the
Bittorrent client, simply click on the Bittorrent file you desire from the
download sections above, save it, then open it. Your Download will then
begin.
Tips for
increasing Download
Speeds:
- Adjust your upload speed
according to your Internet connection speed. If you set your Bittorrent client
to upload at a speed that is too high it will drastically effect your download
speeds. The simplest method of obtaining the maximum speed you can upload at
before effecting your download speed is to set it to the lowest speed
possible, then gradually increase the limit until you see a noticeable
degradation in download speed. As a rule of thumb a safe upload speed is
approximately 75% of your maximum upload speed.
- Stick to
1 download at a time, this will ensure the highest transfer
speeds possible, it will also allow the file to propagate effectively if it
has been recently seeded.
- ALWAYS keep at least a
1:1 Ratio on your downloads -
This basically means that if you download a file of 700mbs you must upload
700mbs (give back what you get). If people abuse Bittorrent and don't abide by this rule the speed of downloads will reduce and all
Bittorrents will
effectively 'die'. If people fail to upload at a 1:1 ratio their IP address
will be banned from the Bittorrent Tracker involved.
- FIREWALLS
and ROUTERS
that are blocking ports 6991-6889 will severely inhibit your download speeds.
These are the default ports that enable Bittorrent to connect to other users.
Bittorrent can still connect if these are closed although if you open up these
ports you will notice a massive increase in download speed.
- Users of
XP SP2
may have noticed a
reduction in download speed. To reduce the potential threat of 'Worm Attacks'
Microsoft developers have limited the number of possible TCP connection
attempts per second to 10 (from unlimited in SP1). This new feature can
severely affect the efficiency
of Bittorrent. To change or remove this limit, you
can use the following program:
